Electric adhesion and critical particle size in pneumatic conveying

       pneumatic conveyingStatic electricity can cause adhesion,In the case of relatively fine powder particles, charging is always accompanied by adhesion phenomena, while relatively coarse powder particles can be a countermeasure to prevent adhesion, as shown in Figure 1. As the particle size increases, the porosity will decrease and eventually tend towards a constant value. This means that it is indirectly affected by adhesive force. The particle size at this constant value is called the critical particle size.

For the critical particle size d. For the following fine particles, the relationship between porosity ε and particle size d is

e=K(1/ds)n

If the particle size is increased to the critical particle size d and remains constant, then ε will also remain constant. In the formula, K is the coefficient and n is the exponent.

According to the experiment, the value of d is mostly between 20~30 μ m. In other words, to avoid adhesion (electrification) phenomenon, efforts should be made to ensure sufficient particle size.
